I’ve heard it time and time again;

“The camera hates me”

“Me and the camera aren’t friends”

“I’m awkward in front of the camera”

Yet, every time the pictures turn out amazing and no one would believe me if i told them what these people thought prior to our session.

Its super important that clients feel comfortable around us as this greatly affects the outcome of their photos. With this in mind, I’ve created a list of my Top 5 ways to feel comfortable in front of the camera to help both fellow photographers and clients feel comfortable and be themselves so that they can make photo magic together!

  1. Choose a Photographer you enjoy being around

I cannot stress this enough! If you don’t enjoy the company of your photographer

this will reflect in your photos!

The photographer you choose may take great pictures, but if they don’t communicate well, they’re quiet, or theres a personality clash, this may feel awkward to you as a client and this will reflect in your photos. This is why we always meet with our wedding clients before booking so that it gives both the clients and us an opportunity to get to know each other and our personalities to see if we would be a good fit for each other!

  2. Forget you’re getting your picture taken

I know this sounds ironic but hear me out…

Going into your shoot thinking you’re just doing a casual hang out with a couple of your friends (who just happen to be taking your picture) makes it so much easier to just let loose and have fun! If you feel like you’re around friends, it’ll be easier to be yourself and have your true personality shine through your photos.

3. Get MOVING!

Dance, walk, do whatever to get yourself moving! Movement creates dynamic images that will look great and make you feel comfortable. The last thing you want is to be standing still not knowing what to do and feeling SUPER awkward. We’ll even play you some rad dance tunes to help you out

4. Wear Comfy and well fitted Clothing

Being comfortable in your clothes isn’t just a physical comfort but mental as well. You don’t want to feel worried in the back of your mind “is my bra strap showing?” “I wore mismatched socks, I wonder if you can see them in the photos?”

If you’re constantly thinking about your clothing you will be distracted and it will be harder for you to relax during the shoot. The best way to avoid this is to pick flattering clothing for your body style and dress in styles and colours that will make you feel comfortable and look great in photos!

If you’re unsure of what to wear or you can’t decide between outfits, shoot us a message! We’re happy to help you pick or offer some suggestions for the both of you!

5. Communicate

Whether you’re talking to each other or to the photographer, make sure you communicate!

If a certain pose makes you uncomfortable, speak up! Every client is different and what works for one may not work for another. The only way for us to know is if you tell us. Don’t worry, we won’t be offended.
