Who would have thought 2020 would have turned out to be such a crazy year hey? We had wildfires, grapefruit sized hailstones, sightings of murder hornets, and a virus that seemed to stop the world in its tracks. With most governments around the world putting in strict lockdown measures, it’s forced a lot of wedding vendors to have to shut down - forcing couples to either have to reschedule, cancel, or severely change their wedding plans. Our hearts go out to all those affected, its such a tough time for everyone!

However, despite having to make such changes, YOU CAN still have the wedding of your dreams without having to wait! We’ve put together a list of our top 5 reasons why eloping on your original wedding date - and postponing the party may just be the best thing you do in 2020.

1. Less People - Less Stress

Trying to wrangle all the perfect vendors for the same date can be the hardest task in itself, especially if you have a large guest count (Caterers, DJ’s, Venue, officiants, florists etc….). Making the choice to Elope will allow you to focus less on the party planning, and more on enjoying your day and new life together as a married couple. Once you settle in, you’re in the perfect position to finalize the party planning together for a later date.

2. More Intimate

There is a saying, less is more. The less people you have, the more intimacy you get to experience as you say your I do’s. Some people don’t like being in the spotlight, this is the perfect opportunity to be in a more relaxed environment as you focus on what’s important - that you’re marrying the love of your life! Plus, if you decide to hire a videographer, or live stream via Skype/Zoom, all your friends and family can still share in your special day!

3. You Keep Your Original Wedding Date

A lot of couples choose their wedding date based on personal significance. For some it could have been the date they first met, first date, the first one of them said the “L” word…. or maybe there’s cultural significance to the date. Choosing to elope means that you can keep your date, and all the significance it holds for every anniversary to come!

4. You Can Go Anywhere!

With no guests to worry about, you can choose to get married wherever, and whatever time of day you want! If you do have a small number of guests, most places only require permits if you’re putting down chairs. Having a simply, small ceremony where your guests are able to stand, means one less thing for you to worry about and makes it a lot more flexible when choosing a spot! When it comes to the photos, Theres nothing we love more than being able to find a rad secluded spot with a gorgeous view, but a lot of these places require time to get to that just isn’t there in the timeline of a wedding day. Without worrying about guests to return to, you literally have as much time as you want. If you want to throw on some hiking boots to make it to that rad photo spot you saw on instagram to say your I do’s, we’re down. You want to helicopter to a mountain peak to catch golden hour? We’re also down. That leads me to my last point….

5. Its about YOU

This day is about YOU, and no one else. It’s amazing to be able to share it with family and friends, but at the end of the day you need to do what’s best for the two of you. An Elopement may not have been what you had in mind, or even wanted, but there are many ways to make it even more amazing in other ways you would have never thought of or expected….. then once Covid-19 is no longer an issue, you can party extra hard at your reception with all your friends and family!
